The Best Dessert in the World!

by Sluuggo

What do you get when you add a fluffy, sugary, fried malasada with vanilla bean ice cream and two strips of smoked bacon, dipped in chocolate all drizzled with sweet honey?
You’d have the best dessert I have ever had. I discovered this porky confection at Uahi Island Grill, an awesome new restaurant in Kailua on Oahu.

I must say that the meal I had here was phenomenal but this dessert was truly out of this world. I initially had not pondered indulging in a sweet treat but as I opened the menu the words, “Malasada with chocolate covered bacon and honey” captured my bacon loving attention.

Bacon Malasada

The first bite was sheer bliss. A real lullaby for my mouth. The malasada, which is a Portuguese doughnut was soft and warm with the perfect amount of sugar. The bacon was perfectly crispy and porky but with a thin shell of rich dark chocolate. The ice cream was savory from the thin ribbons of honey. If the flavors weren’t enough the contrasts in textures of all of the components completed this foodgasm.

As with most awesome dishes this was not anything over the top or complex. Each of the components were simple but had big flavors and they complemented each other perfectly. This also goes to show that bacon isn’t just for breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers and salads anymore

The best part is that Uahi is still somewhat new. Hurry before the word gets out and everyone and their pet iguana tries to go.
